Greetings to all. |
From the Vice-Chancellor’s Desk |
1st August, 2019 |
I have been appointed as the In-Charge Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University of Transplantation Sciences (GUTS) since 10th May 2019. We know the science of Transplantation is relatively new in the history of medical sciences. Due to the tremendous hard work of stalwarts world over Transplantation Science made remarkable progress in last sixty-five years and brought it from bench to bedside. In India too, this science has made considerable impact on lives of patients with end organ failure. However, structured program for teaching and training the future generations in Transplantation and allied Sciences under one roof are not existing. Similarly, research facilities in this area of specialization do not exist under a single umbrella. This had inspired revered Dr. H.L. Trivedi to create a university dedicated to Transplantation and allied sciences, supported by Honorable Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi and then Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel. As has been stated by my revered predecessor Dr. Veena R. Shah, the vision of establishing this university is to develop the highest standards of clinical care by setting the yardstick in post-graduate training and teaching, facilitating high quality and translational research for the advancement of humanity.
GUTS has now three constituent colleges. IKDRC-ITS (Smt. G.R. Doshi & Smt. K.M. Mehta Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre - Dr. H.L. Trivedi Institute of Transplantation Sciences), IKDRC College of Nursing and IKDRC-ITS College of Physiotherapy. In 2016 M.Sc. Nursing in Surgery and Medicine with specialization in Nephrology and Urology was started in IKDRC college of Nursing. PGDMLT and Certificate courses in Dialysis technology were started in IKDRC and Masters in Physiotherapy (Cardiac and Transplantation Rehabilitation) in IKDRCITS college of Physiotherapy. Fellowship courses in Pediatric Nephrology, in Organ Transplantation Surgery and in Liver Transplant Anesthesia and Critical Care were started in 2018. The long cherished dream of our team was fulfilled in May, 2019 when the Board of Governors in supersession of MCI recognized IKDRC-ITS under GUTS as a super-specialty training center for M.Ch. Urology.
We know that the path is tumultuous. There are challenges that we shall overcome and make this dream a grand success with undaunting and tireless efforts of one and all associated with this stupendous task.
With the support of guiding torchbearers and friends in the field, and the wholehearted support of the government, I assure to put in my tireless efforts to make this University as the most soughtfor destination of students and teachers alike and even the management gurus and researchers to share their bit of knowledge and experience with us.
